It all started in 2004 when a group of local Pastors and Lay Leaders met to decide fi they could develop and organize a feeding program for the people of the Salem area. They received information from the Banquet in Sioux Falls, SD and after
meeting with the public, decided to proceed with a local meal. On September 14, 2004, The Banquet in Salem served the first meal. There were 60 people served meals that night.
The Banquet in Salem has grown over the years to the point we now serve 240 meals every Monday and 180 meals on the 4th Thursday of each month. Since that first night in 2004, there have been over 230,000 meals served!
There is a dedicated group of individuals that come together each week to do the preparation and service work, but it also takes donations to make it happen. Each meal costs an average of $800. The people of Salem have always been extremely generous in helping us fund the program, but the demand is great. By donating to the Banquet, you can be assured that 100% of your tax-deductible contribution will be used to feed local people from the Salem area.
